Rooted in European legal tradition, connected to global debates on AI governance.
Shaping the Future of AI Governance
Artificial intelligence is reshaping how decisions are made, responsibilities are assigned, and power is exercised across societies. Yet existing legal, ethical, and governance frameworks were not designed for systems that act with increasing autonomy and adaptive capacity.
At Nyåkern Nexus Research Institute, our work responds to this gap. We approach AI governance as a living, interdisciplinary challenge — one that requires new conceptual models, long-term capacity building, and sustained engagement with policymakers, institutions, and the public.
Our activities are structured around three interconnected pillars, each addressing a critical dimension of how human–AI collaboration should be governed, taught, and collectively shaped.
Research & Governance Innovation
We design new legal, philosophical, and governance frameworks that recognize AI as an agentic system, moving beyond regulatory models built for static technologies and purely human actors.
Education & Fellowships
We cultivate the next generation of ethical AI leaders through doctoral, postdoctoral, and interdisciplinary fellowship programs that combine technical knowledge with philosophical and legal depth.
Policy & Public Engagement
We work with policymakers, institutions, and civil society to translate research into practical governance tools, public dialogue, and adaptive regulatory approaches.
“Governance is not only about preventing harm, but about shaping the futures we choose.”

- OUR PHILOSOPHY
Nyåkern Nexus Research Institute is an independent research institute dedicated to rethinking how artificial intelligence is governed in an age of human–AI collaboration. We combine philosophical depth with practical governance design, operating at the intersection of research, policy, and public engagement.
- A FRAMEWORK FOR HUMAN–AI GOVERNANCE
Artificial intelligence can act with genuine agency, while humans remain responsible for its outcomes.
Governance should actively shape the futures we seek to build, not merely prevent potential harms.
Effective AI governance depends on genuine interdisciplinary collaboration across disciplines and perspectives..
Human dignity, democratic values, and sustainable human flourishing are essential and non-negotiable.
